Competition Overview

“Driving Innovation” competition highlights the potential of students – the future of the traffic/transport industry - currently studying in the Middle East. The competition provides an opportunity for students to display and present their projects to the visitors of Gulf Traffic, which takes place from 9-11 December 2019 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The competition is open to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students studying in the Middle East.

2019 Theme: “Smart Transport for Intelligent Cities''

Students are invited to design and develop an intelligent solution around the 2019 theme of “Smart Transport for Intelligent Cities”.

Students from all disciplines are invited to enter, provided the above theme is being addressed. As a guide, projects can cover (but are not limited to) the following areas:

  • Road safety
  • Smart mobility
  • Artificial Intelligence & transportation
  • ITS (including telecoms)
  • Transportation systems (including logistics)
  • Renewable energy

Why Enter?

  • Students will have the opportunity to display their work in front of the visitors of Gulf Traffic, the region’s largest traffic and transport exhibition
  • The competition offers a fantastic opportunity for students to meet potential employers and provides a great experience to add to their resumé
  • The winner will be presented with a Gulf Traffic Award
  • Participants will be promoted across various platforms ahead of the show and the winner will be announced in an email to our database of over 50,000 industry professionals


  • Competition open to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students in the Middle East
  • Entrants must be enrolled students at the time of submission
  • Project must be verified by a faculty member

How To Enter

All submissions should be sent through our online submission form.  Complete the ''Download Application Form'' after which you will receive a link to download the relevant submission form (either undergraduate or postgraduate).

Submissions should answer all questions and provide supporting material which is instrumental in helping our judges to assess the projects.

Completed submission form should be sent to by Wednesday, 16th October 2019.

You may only submit files in the following formats gif, jpg/jpeg, tif/tiff, word, pdf.

Important Dates

  • Shortlisted projects will be announced by Monday, 11th November 2019.
  • Shortlisted projects must be set up for display on Sunday, 8th December 2019.
  • Contestants must attend for all three days of the exhibition to explain their product to voters and present to the panel of judges (9 – 11 December 2019).
  • Contestants will be allocated a 15-minute time slot to present their project to the panel of judges during Gulf Traffic(timings to be communicated to finalists when the shortlist has been announced)

Entries are not disclosed or discussed outside the judging process. We do not publish the names of companies, organisations or individuals that have not won an Award, nor will we reproduce any information from your entry. Therefore, if you enter the Competition, but are not successful, this will remain confidential. In addition, entrants may mark any commercially sensitive information contained in their entry as 'not for publication'.

The organisers reserve the right to use information contained in the winning entries (apart from contact details and any content marked not for publication) for subsequent publicity, promotions and other activities relating to the Competition.
